Hi, thanks so much for visiting my blog!
My name is Audra and I’ve been traveling my entire life. Hence, the passport of me, age 3. My travels began at an early age due to my father being in the military. I started moving/traveling around the age of 1 and when I was 4 we moved to the Netherlands. We lived there for 5 years and while there, traveled throughout Europe. I’ve pretty much been obsessed with traveling ever since.
Years later, I met my husband, he joined the military and we moved around the world for the next 20 years. Early on, we had 4 children (within 3 years) who kept us extremely busy and as I’m sure you can imagine, money was a bit tight. Traveling was not even something we would have been able to do on our own. But, being a military family, we always knew that every few years there would be a move and a new adventure to explore a new place. We were lucky enough to have the experience of living in Japan and Italy as well as several places in the United States.
Once military life was over, our travels slowed down quite a bit. After 4 years of being settled back in Texas and having only made 1 trip (NYC), I decided that I didn’t want to sit and wait until retirement to travel. I needed to travel now. I set a goal, a mini bucket list, of my top 5 places I wanted to see within 5 years. I hit 4 out of the 5 within three years plus a few other places. What I’ve learned is that if you really want to travel, you’ll find a way. You don’t need a lot of money to see the world and you definitely don’t need to wait until you retire, win the lottery, or whatever other excuses we come up with.
I’ve been a photographer for the last 18 years. I owned a portrait business for 9 years, spent 3 years photographing hotels, and have spent the last 5 years selling prints of my travels.
I’m totally envious of those that get to travel the world full time with nothing but a backpack but it just wasn’t in the big plan of life for me. Maybe that will be the plan later in life but for now, we have a home in Texas and are saving for retirement. In the middle of all that normal life stuff, we travel as often as we can. We are hoping to retire soon and travel to all the places we dream of!
